Kitty Bytes - May 2005

"Prowling his own quiet domain, or asleep by the fire..he is still only a whiskers away from the wild..."
- Jean Burden -

Cat lovers must like jigsaw puzzles, because when you own cats sometimes you'll have to become a puzzle detective.

When your cat starts acting out, or doing a behavior that mystifies you, then you have to eliminate all that could be causing it. Putting the pieces of the puzzle together until something fits and then will find the answer.

When people tell me cats are low-maintenance animals, I have to laugh. I think to myself... "Little do they know!"

Focus On Felines

Ten more lovely kitties are presented for your viewing pleasure. It is always a tough choice to vote among such wonderful photographs. Each cat is already considered a winner, simply because their owners take such wonderful care of them.

Please DO NOT send any new photographs to us. They will just be returned. We are not taking new photos until after 2009, in order to get through all photos previously sent.

Our winner Ellen Rapoport and her endearing kitten Hedae, will be receiving an ionic-breeze litter box air filter from our sponsor Citypet.com.

Introducing Cats to Dogs

Kitty Bit

I generally leave cat tips here for the membership. But this time of year, the most important tip that I can pass on is to please Spay and Neuter your cats! 3.4 million Pets were euthanized in the United States last year. There is no need to have your backyard variety cat able to reproduce. Spaying and neutering just makes sense!

From time to time, I receive emails from the readership here. I do read each one, and some really touch my heart. Recently, I had a young girl contact me and ask me if I would consider her article about cats for the website. She informed me she is 11 years old. I told her to send it on, but I couldn't promise anything. After reading it, I was touched by her sincerity, and her love for cats. The essay is brief, and I have reprinted it here with her permission: She calls herself KissKatKatie and the essay is called "Cats Deserve More."

Cats to some people are cute, cuddly, and beautiful. They are known to hunt mice, and you can train them not to scratch the furniture with scratching posts, but people say "Why bother?"

You should bother because cats are creatures and excellent buddies. Cats may be different but they deserve a chance. Then after a while you train them a little and you may realize and say "Wow, I don't know what to do with out my cat!"

And I don't know what I would do without my cats either-

Until next time,
