It's March and Kitten Season is almost upon us in the northern hemisphere. As the days get longer and the weather warms up, female cats go into heat. Starting in the south and working itself north, a tsunami of kittens will soon flood the earth. Our focus this month is on feline pregnancy, birth and delivery. We sincerely hope these articles will help rescuers, while at the same time deter backyard breeders from letting their cat get pregnant and have more kittens.
But first, some fun stuff!
Check out the submissions to this month's photo contest featuring members' cats back when they were wee 'lil things...
You can submit your picture here, or just take a peek at other members' submissions.
Now's also the time to share last month's winner of the Cats and their litterbox photo contest. Congratulations to our member and moderator GoldyCat who submitted the winning picture of her cat Gavin thoroughly testing a new type of kitty litter:
We're looking for computer-generated drawings created using software as simple as MS Paint. Simple phone drawing apps work too!
Draw me a picture of your cat in a funny or interesting situation. What's funny? Whatever you think is. We're not looking for hilarious here, just something cute that we can all relate to. If you can include yourself in the picture and show some interaction, that's even better. It can be as cartoonish as you like. Stick figures are welcome as long as the overall picture is interesting.
Draw to enter our draw of a cool TCS teeshirt! These members won various prizes including Amazon gift cards, TCS merchandise and premium site memberships
It was great fun babbling along with the community in a babbling thread that made it all the way to 1048 posts!
Is there a genetic correlation between a cat's color and personality?
This was just one of many questions our members asked Professor Leslie Lyons, an expert on feline genetics, in the special expert forum we held this month.
Genetic research is more than just coat colors or testing for a pedigreed cat's lineage. Prof. Lyons's work brought us genetic testing for medical conditions such as Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), promoting cat health and quality of life. Please do visit her website for more information about current research in feline genetics and how you can help promote it even further.
