Your Cat Wants a Massage hosted by Maryjean Ballner

I bought this video as an accompaniment to Maryjean’s book Cat Massage: A Whiskers to Tail Guide to Your Cat’s Ultimate Petting Experience. Good thing too, because our new German Shepherd puppy (Princess Lei) apparently did not want our cats to get a massage!

Late at night Lei pulled the book off the shelf and tore it to shreds! In the morning, I found her among the debris, tail wagging absolutely pleased with her actions.

Maybe she knew that another book by the same author is available called Dog Massage! I don’t negotiate with puppy terrorists however, so she will have to wait for that book to appear here.

I popped the video in and was glad that I did. In Your Cat Wants a Massage, Maryjean talks about specific massage techniques you can apply to your cat. Proclaiming that “Massage creates partners” Maryjean instructs you on how to use massage on your cat for various reasons:

To be sociable

To promote their health

To have fun

Massaging a cat that would prefer to hide has to be done correctly and in small stages. Done under the right conditions, you can take the “scaredy” out of the cat, hastening the bonding between pet and the owner.

Touch is powerful; it creates trust, but remember to be gentle. The author suggests you practice on a stuffed animal first.

The video is full of interesting techniques and tidbits. So much information can be a bit overwhelming, but there is always the rewind button. Not to mention the previously mentioned book Cat Massage book. Just be sure when you do buy the book that you keep it out of the reach of any dog in the vicinity. They might carry a jealous streak!

Cat Charity Spotlight: The Marley Fund

The Marley Fund is dedicated to making a difference in the fight against both feline leukemia (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency (FIV).

This national nonprofit organization provides not only education but also an alternative option to immediate euthanasia, in its safe haven for infected cats—where quality care and life enrichment are the primary concern.

The Marley Fund's fundraiser cat calendars are offered for sale on their website. What's more, you can enter your cat photo into their calendar competition. Each submission is accompanied by a $10 donation to the fund. If you have a hi-res original cat photograph that you would like to submit, email Joy from the Marley Fund today. All entries must be in by the end of June, so hurry up!
