Kitty Bytes - June 2005

"No matter how much cats fight, there always seems to be plenty of kittens."
- Abraham Lincoln -

Truer words were never spoken. Having recently visited several animal shelters in my area, I was overwhelmed by the amount of cats destined to live out their lives in cages until someone could come along and adopt them. The kittens were going out the doors in record numbers, leaving the older adults to sit in the cages waiting for their turn. June is the ASPCA's Adopt a Shelter Cat Month. Perhaps you might consider adding another adult cat to your home?

Please spay and neuter your pets. It is an important part of being a responsible pet-owner.

The forums contest Mission Responsible is still going strong. Our first wave of slogans has been posted and the first poll is underway. The top five slogans of May will be then be displayed in June. If you have a catchy slogan that would look good on a bumper sticker and prompt people to spay and neuter their pets- we would love to hear it! There are two prizes being offered up Party Pack for a Responsible Cat and a Three-Story Catty Corner Condo.

Kitty Bit

Want to keep your cat occupied during the day while you are at work? Make use of all those old yellow pages and place one on the floor before you leave the house. Randomly sprinkle organic catnip between the pages of the book, and leave it opened on the floor. Be prepared when you come home for a bit of a mess, but a good vacuum will remove every trace of your cat's pleasurable experience.

Well I have bottle babies waiting for their feedings, so I will wrap this up now. It is kitty season and if you find yourself with an orphaned kitten or a litter without a mom- here are three resources to help you- Amy Shojai's book Complete Kitten Care, Dusty Rainbolt's Kittens for Dummies and the website Kitten-Rescue.com.

But please spay and neuter your cats. Hopefully some day soon bottle feeders will no longer have to sacrifice their sleep and their lives to raise kittens that don't want to be in the world in the first place!

Until next time,

The TCS Team
