Kitty Bytes - December 2005

"A thing of beauty, strength and grace, lies behind that whiskered face."

- Unknown -

On the weekend of the 18th of November, I had the distinct pleasure of attending my first-ever Catwriters’ Association Convention as well as attending the CFA Cat Show in San Francisco.

It was an amazing time. I met some unique and wonderful people both at the convention and the cat show. I was able to see for the first time in my life, up close and personal, the best of the best in cat breeds.

Since I deal with only strays and feral cats in my life, I was stunned at the mellow pedigree cats lounging about in their cages, completely unconcerned about the crowds, the noise or the location. I was mesmerized by their beauty and grateful to see so many fine breeds represented. It was an experience I won’t soon forget.

The month of December, we are happy to bring you ten more fine felines to vote for.

Kitty Bit

It is time for plummeting temperatures and there are stray cats that need warmth and food. To provide a safe, insulated shelter that is inexpensive and quick to set up, you need one of those throw-away Styrofoam coolers, a sharp knife, duct tape and straw.

Take the cooler and cut two cat-size holes in it; one hole in the front, one in the back. Duct tape the lid onto the cooler, stuff straw into the interior (for warmth) and set it out of the elements. Begin feeding nearby so the cat will know that the cooler is a good place to catch a nap. Be sure that you always provide fresh water in the winter time, many a feral cat or stray has become hypothermic by trying to eat snow to survive, thus lowering their core body temperature.

On the Prowl with Stacy Mantle

Stacy Mantle is no dummy. This latest product she was asked to test out would have meant that she would not have any bathroom time. With fourteen cats, two kids and two adults, toilet training all her cats would have been a chore. Therefore, she asked her neighbor to help out, and now you can read about how it went, or if the cats went.
