Kitty Bytes - August 2005

"Cat's may sense early on that you do not appreciate paw prints in the butter, but they will jump on any surface of your home, as long as no one sees it happen."
- Kathy Young -

Cats are natural climbers. Nature gave them the ability to be athletic and agile. Cats should be lean of body with plenty of energy.

Providing your cat with a tall cat condo or similar, sturdy structure will help them keep in shape, while taking away the temptation to jump on the top of the refrigerator and drop things on the top of your head as you pass by!

According to author Dusty Rainbolt in her book Kittens for Dummies; the best deterrent for a climbing kitty is Sticky Paws XL. It is easy to remove if it gets in the way of the human, and it is a great way to keep kitties off of counters and refrigerators. If you have kittens in your home, Sticky Paws XL is a great help through the various stages of kittenhood.

How one person could absorb so much knowledge and wisdom about cats is a topic as compelling as the subjects Wendy tackles. You can learn so much by clicking this link:

If you have a white cat, watch her sun exposure at your windows. Try and block the direct sunlight with hanging plants (non-toxic of course) or plant a herb garden on your window sill. Direct sunlight, even sunlight that comes indoors may cause skin cancers on white felines.

Pet Beds

Before I wrap this issue up, I owe the readership my apologies. Last month I wrote that if you have a pet inside of a car on a hot day be sure there is adequate ventilation. Perhaps I should have elaborated. The comment I made was typed after I confronted a gentleman who had left a beautiful husky in his car while he ran in to get some sodas. When I pointed out that the inside of his car that day was like an oven, he got offended and told me that he had put his air conditioner on prior to stopping the car, therefore the air was cooler in there and the dog was fine!

I do apologize for making such a statement without explaining where it came from. I know that all of you would never leave your pets in a hot car for any reason. How do I know this? Because of all the emails I received last month for making such a statement to begin with!

Until next time,

The TCS Team
